Santa Cruz Mystery Spot, Santa Cruz Ca

465 Mystery Spot Rd., off Branciforte Dr., Santa Cruz, CA
831.423.8897
The Mystery Spot might be the manifest source of Santa Cruz's weirdness. Practically unchanged since its opening in 1939, the promotional literature still says things like, "It's Unusual, It's Amazing, It's Wholesome, Interesting Entertainment." This campy spot is open every single day of the year and draws visitors from all over the world. A couple years ago, a professor from Berkeley took it upon himself to debunk the Santa Cruz Mystery Spot, claiming it all to be nothing more than clever optical illusion. Whatever. According to Randall, a tour guide at the Mystery Spot in Santa Cruz and the kind of guy who likes wagon wheels lying around in the front yard, the place "is testimony to the power of disbelief.

This local dive is frequented by the blue-collar crowd, younger refugees from the club scene, and the occasional stray from the Greyhound station next door. It’s not the most chic place you can choose for a drink, but it does have a distinct character all its own. You can play pool or drop a few dollars in the jukebox while you swill drinks from the better-than-average booze selection. You can even buy six packs to go.

Open Hours: 11:30a-11p Su-W, 11:30a-1a Th-Sa
Gordon Biersch is a mid-scale meeting spot in downtown San Jose. Many hi-tech professionals often dine here when in town for a convention, so the place is renowned far beyond San Jose. It brews its own lager. Pilsner, Marzen, and Dunkles are available. Favorite eats include the individual pizzas and the salads and there is always live jazz to entertain you at night.
“Fresh, hand crafted beer and premium, made-from-scratch food… all served up in a friendly and fun atmosphere – that’s what the Gordon Biersch experience is all about.”

How It All Began

What began over twenty years ago as a dream of bringing together fresh, handcrafted beer and made-from-scratch, world class cuisine – is today a reality at Gordon Biersch Brewery Restaurants from coast to coast and across the Pacific to Hawaii and Taiwan.
This dream of exceptional beer and delicious food became a reality on July 6, 1988 when the first Gordon Biersch opened in Palo Alto, California. Acquired by Big River Brewing Company in 1999, Gordon Biersch currently operates 29 restaurants in the United States, including Honolulu, Hawaii. Additionally, two Gordon Biersch Brewery Restaurants operate in Taiwan. The Gordon Biersch heritage of superior beer, great food and good times are now being served up fresh daily.

cinebar
69 E San Fernando St, San Jose, CA 95113-2511
 Contact: +1 408 292 9562
Open Hours: 6a-2a
This is one of downtown San Jose’s quintessential dive bars, with all the typical accoutrements. Barflys, blue collar drinkers, washed-up skaters, punkers and even college students are found within its walls. The jukebox is always blasting and, for a time, the place was the only one in the area with a pool table. Since then there has been some competition for players, but not enough to make a dent in the volume of business this place pulls in, If you like a bread-n-butter dive bar, then the Cinebar is a San Jose icon for you. Noted for its lowbrow atmosphere and cheap beer, this is a favorite of locals and the college crowd alike. Pool, music, and booze, combine these here in this one room bar and you never know what will happen. Come in tonight and see for yourself.

Singlebarrel, Speak Easy Style, Downtown, San Jose Ca

43 W San Salvador St
San Jose, CA 95113
(408) 792-7356
There is no sign, just a single barrel on the wall.
It took us a few minutes to find this place but when we did, we didn’t want to leave. Its in the basement around the corner from Agenda Lounge @ the intersection of First & San Salvador.
Now, lets get to the good stuff. First off, this is an awesome place for us 30 somes to go & have a normal conversation without your ears bleeding from the loud muic.  The place has a old world feel to it with even the bartenders doing their bit by wearing retro clothes. Cheesy, but it works!  Secondly the bartenders are the best I have ever seen in the bay area. Cache is the head bartender, he calls himself the “mofo professor” compared to the other sophomers working there :)  They have a really good list of cocktails which they take a lot of care in making. I like the fact that he explained the history behind each of the drinks he made for us. I am more of a single malt guy but I have to say the “old fashioned” I had here was the best!
In Short:  Friendly & really knowledgeable bartenders
Really good cocktails & beer/wine/single malt selection
                Good ambience

Agenda Bar, Restaurant & Lounge, Downtown San Jose Ca

399 S 1st St
San Jose, CA 95113

Have been here a couple times and it’s one of my favorite spots in San Jose but not quite the best. Definitely the best alternative in that section of the city however. Have never really been in the downstairs area but I like the upstairs area. Comfortable chairs , good music , good drinks and perhaps the most diverse crowd in SJ which is a positive.

52 S 1st St
San Jose, CA 95113
(408) 288-8518
Wed-Fri 6 pm – 1:30 am / Sat 8 pm – 1:30 am
Went here the other nite and loved it. The music was great, the drinks were good, the ladies were beautiful and the bartenders were nice.  Overall I give this place two thumbs up. I will defiantly be visiting Temple again.

Bamboo 7, Karaoke Music, Japantown, San Jose Ca

http://siliconvalleyplaces.blogspot.com/p/nightclubs-bars.html
162 Jackson Street, San Jose, CA 95112-5107  /Japantown
(408) 279-9937
Great food during the day then watch out it is KARAOKE TIME…………..
This may look like a dive bar in Japantown, but Bamboo 7 also happens to be the happening place for karaoke. The clientele ranges from happy businessmen to bored, hyperactive college dropouts. No matter how good or bad a singer you may be, the audience will cheer you on. Add a couple of really stiff drinks from the bar, a friendly wait staff and the night will roll along just fine, no matter what key you are or are not.
