The 2011 San José Pride Festival will take place August 20-21, 2011.The San José Pride Board of Directors is excited that President Obama on December 22, 2010, signed into law the repeal of Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell. Established in 1993, this law prohibited gays and lesbians from serving openly in our military. This type of discrimination and injustice in our Armed Forces will no longer be allowed. Current and future Gay and Lesbian soldiers will be able to passionately serve their country and at the same time have the freedom to be open about their sexuality. San José Pride would like to congratulate our gay/lesbian servicemen and servicewomen, who are the true heroes of today and tomorrow.
For many years, LGBTQ organizations and their allies have been building support and fighting for our rights, especially repealing Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell. Our struggles and calls for repeal did not go unanswered. We must remember to be united and build collaboration with all on our quest for equality. We would like to thank President Obama and those leaders in the US Congress who supported the repeal of DADT.
San José Pride will continue to work closely with our allies on our journey to equality for our LGBTQ community we diligently serve.
