Chinese Moon Festival, Overfelt Park San Jose Ca Sept 13, 2015

Chinese Moon Festival 2015
Sunday, September 13, 2015
1:00pm to 5:00pm
Free Admission and Parking
Overfelt Gardens
368 Educational Park Dr.
San José, CA
In the Chinese Cultural Garden ]

This is a tobacco/alcohol-free event
One of the stories told to children during Moon Festival is of the fairy living in a crystal palace. She comes out to dance on the shadowed surface of the moon. Legend says the "lady living in the moon" dates back to ancient times when ten suns appeared in the sky. The Emperor ordered a famous but mean archer to shoot down the nine extra suns. Once the task was accomplished, Goddess of Western Heaven rewarded the archer with a pill of immortality. But his wife, wishing to save people from his bad disposition, took the pill herself. She has been banished to the moon ever since. They say her beauty is greatest on the day of the Moon Festival.

The date of our Moon Festival was about a week after the real Moon Festival date. But because our student leaders need time to organize 200 school volunteers, it has become our tradition to select the third Sunday of every September to be this community's Chinese Moon Festival. We wish to acknowledge these young people for their spirit, hard work and dedication. Our event would not be as fun and wonderful without them, and we hope they come to fill their lives with the same joyfulness they present here today.

The Moon Festival is celebrated by billions of people. They celebrate it with dances, feasting and moon gazing. Delicious moon cakes are a traditional enjoyment. But on this day, we offer you the pleasure of sharing arts, crafts and creative activities in a Chinese garden setting. Culture is fun! Without art, music, poetry or dance - what would imagination do? We hope you enjoy what we've had fun planning for you. Have a Great Time!!!!!

Go Behind the Scenes at NASA Ames Research Center in Silicon Valley The 75th anniversary open house and walking tours are Saturday, Oct. 18, 2014

Go Behind the Scenes at NASA Ames Research Center in Silicon Valley
News from NASA Ames Research Center:
NASA is inviting the Bay Area behind the gates for its 75th Anniversary. Attendees can take a two-mile walking tour through the Center and visit with Ames engineers and scientists in booths set up in front of their facilities.
After the walking tour, they can join on the plaza to learn about NASA missions.
Food, drinks and NASA gift shop merchandise will be on sale.
  • Event Hours 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Entry gates open 8:15 a.m. Lines may be expected.
  • Ames will have staggered entry times from 9:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. The public is encouraged to observe their ticket time.
The NASA Ames 75th Anniversary Open House is a unique event, and expected to be many times larger than other recent Ames public events. Ames is working with local law enforcement to address traffic impacts in the area on October 18.
Along with observing the staggered ticket timings, NASA Ames recommends walking, biking and public transportation for the thousands attending. Beginning at 7:30 a.m., the Moffett Boulevard off-ramps on U.S. Highway 101 will be closed. The South-bound Highway 101 on ramp will remain open. Manila Road will also be closed to vehicles from Enterprise Way to Ellis Street.

On Site Parking is Extremely Limited
NASA Ames has approximately 10,500 on-site parking spaces (accessible through the Ellis Street gate) for an estimated 120,000 attendees – so parking is not guaranteed.
If you have questions regarding ADA accommodations, please contact Dana Bolles at dana.bolles@nasa.gov. Alternative forms of transit are recommended.
NASA will provide shuttle buses every 15 minutes from two public transit locations:
  1. Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority (VTA) Light Rail’s “BayShore/NASA” station, and
  2. VTA Light Rail’s “Downtown Mountain View” station and CalTrain “Mountain View” station.
For more information about the VTA’s Light Rail, visit: http://www.vta.org/getting-around/interactive-light-rail-mapFor more information about CalTrain, visit: http://www.caltrain.com/For more information about bike trails in Mountain View, see our Bicycle Map PDFor Getting Around Mountain View webpage
Vehicles may only enter Ames through the Ellis Street gate until parking is filled, but pedestrians, bicyclists and shuttle riders may arrive at either the Moffett Boulevard or Ellis Street gates. Bicycle self-locking areas available at both the Moffett Boulevard and Ellis Street gates.
